Footage Captures Exact Moment Jake McCabe Suffers Possible Injury Against the Panthers
Though the Maple Leafs held on to defeat the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Wednesday, they may have come out worse for wear after a key defenseman may have gotten hurt.
It was a hard-fought win for Toronto on Wednesday night, as they were able to skate away with the 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers, clinching a playoff spot while also widening the gap between themselves and the Cats, and was proof that Toronto can hang with the best.
It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows however, as
David Kampf ended up
leaving the game after suffering an injury, and while it's not a huge absence in the vein of
Auston Matthews, it's still a tough situation for the Leafs.
Toronto's Injury Bug Strikes Again
But there is someone who's absence could be a massive factor for the team if he's out for any period of time, and that's defenseman
Jake McCabe.
With just over a minute left in the game, McCabe took a hit into the boards from Panthers forward
Carter Verhaeghe and was a bit slow to get up before making his way to the bench and didn't skate the rest of the game.
If McCabe were to miss any period of time, it would spell disaster for a team who has just started to gel together, and anything that can mess up their momentum is going to cost them big time in the playoffs.
Craig Berube was mum on the injuries to both Kampf and McCabe post-game, and will more than likely give fans and media an update tomorrow morning.
McCabe is no stranger to injuries unfortunately, as he's missed time this season with two different injuries, including taking a puck off the side of the head in a game in late November against Tampa Bay, which led to him missing a couple weeks.
He's stayed relatively healthy though this season, and it's paid off huge for the Maple Leafs.
In 65 games this season,
McCabe has 22 points (2G, 20A) which is a slight downturn in goals from last season, but has been a hitting and shot blocking menace with 115 and 135 respectively.
But Toronto can't afford to lose him for any period of time, and we can only hope it was just a close call.
If not? It's going to be one heck of a bumpy ride for the team without their arguably their best defenseman.
