Fans React as John Tavares Undresses Chris Tanev With Sensational Move

Last season was a pleasant surprise for Maple Leafs fans as they saw John Tavares come out and score a blistering 38 goals and looking like he was a decade younger with how creative and dominant he was, especially when Auston Matthews was hurt.

He re-signed on a long-term deal that will see him finish his career in Toronto, and it seems that may have been an incredibly wise investment.

A new video from the Maple Leafs official X account showed Tavares and Chris Tanev working on a 1-on-1 drill, where the former captain took the puck, made the defender look absolutely lost, then deposited the puck in the net; a sequence that made him look 26, not 34.

It wasn't lost on the fans either, who were not only thrilled with seeing Tavares back to his vintage form, but that they were genuinely stunned he's able to do it at his age still.

A notable point that fans noticed is that Tavares did that to arguably Toronto's best defensive defenseman in Tanev, meaning that he might be incredibly dangerous to weaker opponents:

Tavares could be seen now as an absolute steal if he is putting up this type of performance already in camp and looks healthy and motivated to not only win with the Maple Leafs, but make Team Canada for the 2026 Olympics.

Last year, the former captain put up a very solid season with 74 points in 75 games (38 goals, 36 assists) with only seven points in 13 playoff games (5 goals, 2 assists).

We still have a lot of time left until the regular season however if this is any indication, John Tavares is ready to do some serious damage.
