Craig Berube doesn't have an update on the recent loss of Joseph Woll but revealed some news on Anthony Stolarz.
The Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes was far from roses for the Leafs who lost starter Joseph Woll after the second period for what the Leafs said was
a lower-body injury.
Woll did not return for the third period in the win, with backup Dennis Hildeby taking on the third in his place.
The Leafs loss of Joseph Woll would be less of a strain for Toronto if not for the existing absence to the other half of the Leafs tandem in Anthony Stolarz.
Stolarz has been away
since an injury suffered back on November 11th against the Boston Bruins, having missed the Leafs last 10 games.
Craig Berube provides an update on the status of Anthony Stolarz
After the game against Carolina, Berube spoke to reporters but wasn't able to give any sort of update as to the status of Woll at that point.
Without having any available information on the status of Woll, Berube had an update on the other injured Leafs goalie in Anthony Stolarz.
Berube said on Stolarz that he hasn't resumed skating since his injury against Boston, a sign that Stolarz's return is unlikely to be imminent.
With Stolarz and Woll both out for an unclear amount of time, the Leafs next start Saturday may go to Dennis Hildeby, who was already being considered for the start.
What Woll's uncertainty could mean for Toronto
There is no meaningful Joseph Woll update as of right now, with the fact that his injury happening later in the game making an update ready by post-game less likely.
If Woll isn't going to miss much time, Hildeby starting the next game isn't a difficult spot for the Leafs to be in, only so if Woll's absence is prolonged.
The Leafs have regularly safeguarded injury information this past season, making Toronto a bit unpredictable where things stand health wise.
There's no update on either Stolarz or Woll on their injury statuses, but already it presents a test for the Leafs crease.
Dennis Hildeby, still a rookie with just 13 games of NHL experience, could be tasked with controlling the Leafs net, especially if Toronto is only without another goalie option for a time not long enough to pull the trigger on a trade.
Whether Woll will be unavailable for Saturday's game won't be a big problem for the Leafs, it's what comes after, and it could create a significant challenge for the roster needing to be solved.
