Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin commented after trading Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Allvin spoke on the trade for Joshua, praising him as both a player and person and expressed their gratitude and resilience.
Dakota went through a lot last season before the year even started, and we were very impressed with how he handled such a difficult off-ice situation. Once healthy, he tried hard to help the team in many ways, and we want to wish him the best moving forward - Patrik Allvin
Dakota Joshua missed the start of the 2024-25 NHL season after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in the offseason, having been limited to just 57 games from his recovery, managing to return quickly despite a serious medical issue.
The Canucks praised Dakota Joshua for his ability to come back from dealing with cancer and showing a continued dedication to playing on the ice in his return.
Toronto Maple Leafs Get A Resilient Player In Dakota Joshua
Dakota Joshua quickly getting back into his flow after a cancer diagnosis is not only a testament to his skill, but to his effort level and hustle.
Joshua is a hard-working player who is both consistently engaged and physical and works hard on the ice. The physicality had never left this season.
He didn't get the best results with just seven goals and 14 points, but is a season removed from 18 goals and 32 points in 68 games.
The potential for Joshua to rebound at full health is one that is highly alluring, and why the Leafs gave up a mid-round pick to acquire him with the hopes that his game will take a jump back to his prior form.
With a healthy Dakota Joshua, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a few interesting new forward options with him, along with
Matias Maccelli and
Nicolas Roy as well, all three players hoping to have big years.
If all goes right and Dakota Joshua can go back to the player he was before his cancer setback, he could be a very positive acquisition for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and fill a major need in terms of physicality and hard work.
