The Toronto Maple Leafs were busy bees leading up to the trade deadline, and Leafs GM Brad Treliving shared some insights into their moves and the team's outlook.

Insights from Leafs GM Brad Treliving

Treliving emphasized the importance of the players in the locker room, stating:

We tried to make some moves to address certain areas, but at the end of the day a lot of answers are going to come from the guys that are in the room. That's the reality of the situation. We've got a group that's driven. We got a group that's hungry.

Discussing Nick Robertson's role, Treliving expressed confidence in the young player, saying:

Nick has had a good year with us. I consider him one of our players, with the Leafs. We've added depth today (in Dewar). We look forward to having Nick back with us before too long. And I think he's going to play a role with us going forward.

On the defensive front, Treliving acknowledged the ongoing work, expressing excitement about adding Joel Edmundson, who Toronto acquired from the Washington Capitals.

It's going to continue to be a work in progress. Excited to get Joel. He's a big, rangy d-man. He adds length, physicality, experience. With adding him & Lyubushkin, we've added some size & bite & now we got to do it by committee.

Discussing the trade pick-up Connor Dewar, Treliving highlighted his defensive prowess and versatility.

A real defensively responsible centre. I don't think you can too many centres. He's proficient on the PK, an area we wanted to help ourselves with. He gives us more depth in the middle. He's a very competitive player.

Finally, Treliving praised Easton Cowan's performance, stating there was no thought to include him in bigger trades.
Easton's had a heckuva year, and he's a heckuva player.
