Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving is reportedly open to trading Brandon Carlo if it helps him bring in some better offensive help according to Frank Seravalli.
With the discussions around what moves the Maple Leafs are going to make this summer, a lot of that focus is going to be on trading some names out to bring in fresh faces and instil that DNA change that Brad Treliving so desperately wants.
The main culprits for a potential trade seem to be David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok, and Max Domi, with Morgan Rielly's name interspersed in there as well.
While it might not be the easiest group of deals for the Maple Leafs to pull off, they should at least entertain some offers and see what assets they can recoup during this transitional period.
Brandon Carlo popping up in trade talks; may be a casualty of a new-look Leafs team

One name who has popped up recently however to the surprise of many is Brandon Carlo. Acquired at the trade deadline for Fraser Minten and a first-round pick, he was brought in to add much needed relief for Morgan Rielly and give Toronto another beefy blueliner to wreak havoc.
But with the Maple Leafs needing a change and a need to improve their forward depth, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli believes the team could end up deciding to part with Carlo even though they just ended up bringing him in a few months ago:
Carlo's name has popped up in conversation in recent days, even though he was just acquired on Deadline Day from Boston in exchange for first and fourth round picks plus Fraser Minten.
To be blunt: Toronto really isn't itching to move Carlo. He is a big man who adds reliable depth at a reasonable cap hit and he's in the prime of his career.
But the Leafs may be able to parlay Carlo, at a premium position, into a higher-end forward to add to the lineup. Few things are off the table at this point for GM Brad Treliving. - Frank Seravalli

It would be a shrewd bit of business to turn Carlo into a top-six force for the team, but there is a possibility they are able to swing a trade for a name like Jordan Kyrou; someone who has also popped up in trade talks recently.
Carlo for Kyrou?

Kyrou, 27, would be essentially Mitch Marner's replacement and instantly give Toronto the offensive presence they need; albeit at a big cost. He's scored 104 goals over the last three seasons, plays solid defense, and would be much cheaper than Marner at $8.125-million over the next six years.
Plus, Carlo would inject some more youth (at least a bit) into the aging Blues defense. Much like the Maple Leafs, their blueline is filled with older players and would be the fourth-youngest defender on the current roster.
But Toronto themselves dont want to let go of a potential top-4 shutdown defender, especially with Morgan Rielly more than likely in the fold; Carlo is too valuable to trade away.
GM Doug Armstrong is known for making these types of moves, and with him being so shrewd, he may be able to sell Toronto on Kyrou enough to pry Carlo and whatever else away from Brad Treliving.
But that might not be the worst thing in the world, and it would certainly give Toronto a much-needed boost.
