Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving is going to have issues trying to acquire Nazem Kadri this season, given that Calgary doesn't seem to ever want to work with him according to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos.

The rumors surrounding Nazem Kadri and his return to the Maple Leafs has been rampant to say the least. It seems every other day there's a new report that either updates what we already know, or completely contradicts it.

Brad's flamed out: Calgary not willing to work with former GM

But as much as Toronto would love to bring him back, Calgary is in no rush to deal him plus the return is going to be a lot higher than some anticipate. According to Nick Kypreos however, it might not just be Kadri's cost being an issue.
In his summer trade board, Kypreos explained that Kadri to the Leafs is going to have a tough roadblock to navigate, that being Calgary's constant refusal to work with their former GM Brad Treliving:
Toronto's Brad Treliving has tried numerous times to trade with his old club in the past only to be shut down by the Flames on Tanev, Zadorov and Andersson, so it may be a stretch for the Leafs to land Kadri.

While he finally got Tanev, that came courtesy of the Dallas Stars last summer, and Treliving wasted no time in locking him up. They've tried for Rasmus Andersson before and are continuing to monitor his situation with the Flames this year.
Whether it's feeling like he shafted them with some bad deals, or dealt two of Florida's three-headed monster is undetermined, but we can definitely speculate.

Treliving's trades could have set the Flames back years

Trading Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett may be two of the worst moves he's made, plus while he did bring Kadri along; it was a very expensive deal at the time, and the Flames haven't really don't much in the postseason.
Only one can imagine what Bennett and Tkachuk could have added to the Flames, but Treliving shipped them out and they've resented him ever since.
Sure, he added Mackenzie Weegar and Jonathan Huberdeau to the team; the latter becoming a star blueliner. However, Tkachuk is a two-time Cup winner and a focal point of Florida's dynasty.
Even worse, he traded Bennett for a second-round pick and Emil Heineman (who was part of the Noah Dobson deal). Bennett just won the Conn Smythe, and his second straight Cup.
So if Craig Conroy wanted to do business with the Leafs, there is a chance he will; but if you expect him to ask for anything less than top dollar (Easton Cowan, perhaps?), think again.
Treliving fleeced them once before while trying to help them, and they can only imagine what he'll do on the other side.
