If the Maple Leafs wanted to add Brad Marchand to their team this free agency, it could benefit them as he looks to maximize his financial potential.

With a lot of talk surrounding who the Toronto Maple Leafs might end up signing this summer, the name who keeps coming up is Brad Marchand.
A notorious enemy of the team, he could be the key to changing things around and giving the team a fighting chance in the playoffs.

Brad Marchand wants to be paid; Toronto can certainly offer that

But there's also a lot of talk about him getting a raise, wherever he ends up, and if he wants to be paid, then Toronto can offer that. According to NHL Insider Chris Johnston, speaking on TSN 1050's FirstUp; it's not that he just wants a big contract but he wants to maximize his financial potential:
One thing that isn't brought up, players in Toronto get paid more; it's the US/Canada dollar difference. They may pay higher taxes but they get paid in US dollars.

Next year is a big year, it's an Olympic year, and some brands are going to want to be attached to those with a name heading into the Games. There's immediate opportunities for playing in Toronto, but there are future ones too.

People remember you as a Maple Leaf. There's so many who have gone into sports media here in Toronto, if you have a personality and something the fans gravitate towards; that brings you a lot of future opportunities outside of hockey. - Chris Johnston

So if Marchand wanted to sign in Toronto, could they offer him enough financial stability to have him interested?

Brad Marchand could make enormous money based on extra sponsorships and brand deals

While he isn't as boyish or fresh-faced as Marner, the iconic mug of Marchand would be hard to get used to at first, but won't take long to acclimate to the city and endear himself to sponsors.
Marchand is naturally a funny and charming guy, and that translates well to the bevy of advertisements in Canada with the likes of CIBC, Tim Hortons, Sportchek, Canadian Tire, and could even bring in new sponsors looking for a face to represent their brand.
Not to mention the fact he could instantly transition into a broadcasting or analyst role at either TSN or Sportsnet, or could find himself as a PR rep for a team, being a brand and franchise ambassador at events.
All of that comes with a financial incentive, and it's certainly up towards the most the NHL has to offer. It's a very good bargaining chip, and the fact the team could give Marchand potentially 1.5x his salary with extra endorsements is a huge boost to their chances.
Toronto would be adding some serious playoff firepower if they were to add Marchand, and they'd be bringing in a player with 1,100 games experience, nearly 1,000 points, and considered one of the best postseason producers in recent history.
If there's ever a chance that Marchand would come to Toronto, the fact they can put his face on everything will make him a pretty penny.
Even if it takes a little bit for fans not to look and think of all the times Marchand hurt the team in the past.
