Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann has surfaced as a trade target for one Western Conference team as Toronto's pressure to start selling off assets begins to grow.
It's about time for the Toronto Maple Leafs to decide whether or not they are going to sell off their assets and try to get some hope for the future or aim to make a desperate push at the end of the year.
Either way it's going to be a rough go for certain players and most definitely the fans.
Fan favorites like Scott Laughton and Oliver Ekman-Larsson could be on the move, and the team could very well say goodbye to one of their many goalies.
Edmonton and Bobby McMann could be a perfect fit: Stauffer and Friedman
But one name who has been thrown around a bunch is Bobby McMann. He hits free agency after this year and with a second straight breakout season; he's a hot commodity.
So much in fact that one team should have eyes on him according to two analysts: Edmonton.
Bob Stauffer had Elliotte Friedman as a guest on his podcast and mentioned that with the Oilers needing scoring help, McMann seems like a good choice -- and Friedman agreed:
It would be a bit wild to see Edmonton grab McMann and have two of the fastest skaters on the planet in McMann and Connor McDavid and their already potent offense would grow.
Does Edmonton want to commit long-term however?
Though, there could be a bit of a caveat as Toronto has been trying to get McMann extended and he could be a huge focal point of the new roster come March.
Plus, he's due for a huge pay raise and while he's a great player he's also 30, and the Oilers are committing to him longer than McDavid potentially.
Toronto could feasibly get a similar package to what Vancouver got for Kiefer Sherwood and getting a pick or two plus a potential prospect for two years of McMann is a really good deal looking ahead.
Edmonton isn't in a place to be rebuilding and picks don't necessarily matter right now.
As they try to make a push for their third straight Cup Finals appearance they need scoring and hitting which McMann gives in spades.
Great news for Oilers fans, and a tough loss for Leafs Nation.
