Auston Matthews' 2023-24 season has been amazing thus far, but thanks to one eagle eyed fan, we may now know what his ultimate individual goal is for this year.





While there's a chance that the number 80 on Matthews' glove could mean something else, given his chase for goal scoring history, it appears as though that's the ultimate number he's targeting this year.

Could Matthews have the greatest goal scoring season ever?

No player since Brett Hull 34 years ago has tallied 80 on the year, and if Matthews could do it this year, taking into account era adjustment, he would go down as the great single season goal scorer of all-time.



With a Saturday night hat-trick against the Anaheim Ducks, Matthews now has 48 goals in his 52 games played, putting him on pace to get to the high 70's, and with no signs of slowing down and the motivation to get to 80, there's absolutely no reason to doubt the Maple Leafs superstar.
