Last night, in a 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres, for the second time in his career, Matthews reached the 60-goal mark.
Only a few players managed to score 60 goals during a season in NHL history. Even fewer have made it more than once.
Toronto Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews, at 26 years old, already did it twice. He's now tied to Pavel Bure, Steve Yzerman and Jari Kurri.
In his career, he could join Brett Hull, who did it three times, Phil Esposito and Mario Lemieux (4), as well as Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky (5).
The Toronto Maple Leafs just posted a video on X, in which we can see Sheldon Keefe, Mark Giordano and Auston Matthews giving speeches after last night's win.
Keefe mentionned how he was proud of the way players competed, especially defensively, before giving the floor to Mark Giordano.
The 40 year old veteran, who played 1,142 games in his career, had the Leafs' belt from the previous game, and gave it to Matthews.

What Matthews did is incredible, and Giordano's gesture shows how much of a big achievement this is. The fact that he said it didn't happen many times, despite his vast experience, highlights the fact that Matthews' truly reserves a place in the NHL's elite.
Stay tuned as Matthews will try to get to the 70-goal mark before the season ends. With nine games remaining to the season, everything points to the fact that he will succeed.
