Yet another report has come out about Auston Matthews' unhappiness, but it's actually a positive sign that should give fans a little bit of relief from their anxiety.

We've all heard by now all the talk about Auston Matthews and the debate over whether or not he's going to stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs and it's getting a little bit exhausting for everyone involved, but until we get confirmation one way or another - speculation will keep growing.
There's been conflicting reports about his happiness because some are saying he really wants out of town, and others are saying it's certainly more of a wait and see attitude. Right now, fans are just hoping for the best and with the 2026 NHL Draft to look forward to at least all hopes aren't lost.
Though there could be a chance that this is all a bunch of codswallop.

Auston Matthews speculation grows as new report tries to relieve Leafs Nation's anxiety

A new report has come out courtesy of David Pagnotta that tried to ease the anxious Maple Leafs fanbase and gave a bit of a positive update regarding Matthews' desire to stay with the team.
Pagnotta was on Jeff Marek's 'The Sheet' and talked about how Matthews doesn't necessarily want to jump ship just yet and wants to be here, and if Toronto didn't have a plan already then things would already be a lot different:
I think some of the reporting has been a little misconstrued; I can tell you...Auston wants to win in Toronto, wants to be here; if they're not primed...to do that now, why are we wasting everybody's time?
That's a huge breath of fresh air for Toronto fans as they hope to see both their captain and presumed #1 overall pick Gavin McKenna work together and usher in a new era for the Maple Leafs - while also bringing them untold success along the way.
We heard a couple of reports from some big names that Matthews may want out of town and it's sparked a huge debate from media and the fanbase over what he actually wants.

Why Matthews wanting to win in Toronto isn't completely up to him

If he truly wants to win in Toronto then the team needs to make sure they are going to make every attempt to give him what he needs. Be it a much better blueline, a playmaker like Mitch Marner was, Gavin McKenna, a new coach; whatever it is, do it.
Matthews can only commit to what Toronto offers him and without a solid plan in mind they are going to be locked into a pretty rough situation.
Do they trade Matthews now, get a haul and then hope that whoever comes back is worth the price of a former 69-goal scorer? Or do they build around him and pray that their competitive nature comes back.
None of that has to do with the guy leading the team, so John Chayka has to be careful that whatever data-driven analysis he's using to build the team also gives them the best chance of actually winning.
You can have analytical darlings but if they don't contribute to an elite degree then it's going to backfire.
It's not hard to make sure Auston Matthews is happy and if he is willing to see things through then the least the Maple Leafs can do is acquiesce to his pretty simple demands.
