Shane Doan and Toronto have mutually agreed to part ways as the former Special Assistant is looking to a job with the Vancouver Canucks.

With John Chayka and Mats Sundin in charge of the Toronto Maple Leafs, all attention turns to who the team may replace in the front office now with the regime change in full effect. We've heard some rumblings of departing executives but so far nothing is set in stone.
One name who has popped up a lot recently is Shane Doan, who was serving as Special Assistant to the GM. With a new group in charge though, his job is in jeopardy, and considering he's being looked at for a GM job - his departure was more likely than not.

But it seems like that happened much sooner than anticipated as the Maple Leafs and Doan have agreed to mutually part ways ahead of his June 30th contract expiration date:
Shane Doan and the Leafs have parted ways. His deal was expiring June 30. Sounds like a mutual decision. Doan was brought in by former Leafs GM Brad Treliving. Doan recently interviewed in Vancouver. We'll see where Doan ends up but he's now a free agent.
The fact he was a Treliving hire already had the writing on the wall before Chayka and crew even came in. There was clearly an onus on changing things up and getting rid of the old guard and regardless of if Doan was only here a year - he was a likely casualty.
Now he gets a chance to explore more options and with the Canucks very interested in him then it's likely he ends up there in some capacity but other teams like Nashville could also try and bring him aboard.
It's a bit ironic that Chayka and Doan are parting ways considering it was the former who signed him to a deal to be a part of the Coyotes for a 21st season and there seemed to be some interesting overlap between the two though their time here was certainly short lived.
More details to come.
