UPDATED – 8:32P.M., the Toronto Maple Leafs say Anthony Stolarz will not return to tonight's game vs Washington with a lower-body injury.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz left against the Washington Capitals with an apparent non-contact injury as his season is more than likely over.
Anthony Stolarz left in the first period Wednesday against the Washington Capitals after a non-contact injury following a routine save.
Stolarz left early in the period after taking a shot in the opening minutes of the game, in clear discomfort afterwards. Stolarz, who struggled to get himself up, left with assistance to the Leafs dressing room.
Joseph Woll took over in Stolarz's place, with an update on Stolarz's status currently unknown, although early indications are that he appears doubtful to return to tonight's game.
Stolarz missed two months of action for Toronto earlier in the season after suffering an upper-body injury back in November.
Stolarz, 32, has a 10-10-3 record in 25 games this season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with a 3.29 GAA and a .892 SV%.
Anthony Stolarz's season potentially over after sudden injury
With five games remaining in the season, Anthony Stolarz's season may have ended early following his recent no-contact injury.
The Maple Leafs will likely rule Stolarz as not being able to return to tonight's game, with his injury a potential risk to keep him out for the rest of this season.
The only hope for Toronto is that if Stolarz is out for the Leafs final four games, that it's only those games that Stolarz misses, and any injury doesn't extend into next season.
Joseph Woll missed the beginning of this season for "personal reasons", Toronto surely hoping to avoid being without their duo able to go for game one of the 2026-27 season.
If Stolarz is shut down for the season, Joseph Woll may play all four of the Leafs, although with the Marlies having locked down a playoff spot Wednesday after a win vs. the Utica Comets, one of Dennis Hildeby or Artur Akhtyamov could provide coverage for the end stretch of the Leafs season.
