With questions about whether Anthony Stolarz is going to re-sign with the Maple Leafs or not, a new update from Dave Pagnotta should bring fans some relief.

Reports came out earlier that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anthony Stolarz were working on a contract extension but hadn't been close even though both parties seem to have mutual interest in staying.
A stellar season last season with the potential for another fantastic year in 2025, Stolarz is no doubt going to get a pay raise and it's well deserved. Fans are hoping that things get fixed sooner than later as to not see their strong goaltending duo split up.

Where Talks Between the Maple Leafs and Stolarz Stand Right Now

However according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period; it's still radio silence so far.
But that's not either party's lack of interest, as he does note that while negotiations have not progressed yet, they are both in constant communication regarding a deal:
The Maple Leafs and goalie Anthony Stolarz have made no progress as of today (September 12, 2025) on a contract extension.

There's no concern from either side, as discussions are still ongoing.

This is great news for the Maple Leafs and their fans after a strong season finally gave them something to cheer about at least when it comes to the goaltending. A sore spot for years, Stolarz came in with no fanfare and became a fan favorite overnight.
Although he dealt with injuries, he posted a 21-8-3 record with a 2.14 GAA and .925 SV%; he also went 4-2-0 with a 2.19 GAA and .901 SV% in the playoffs.

Why This Contract Update Matters for Toronto's Goaltending Plans

Considering that the Maple Leafs already have both Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby locked up for the next three years, they aren't in the worst possible position however are going to need to see more out of Hildeby as a reliable option.
Stolarz provides a perfect balance between veteran experience and relative youth. He's 31, going to be 32 and in the grand scheme of things still has a good four or five years left at the top of his game.
Barring another big injury setback or some serious regression, Stolarz should be in the conversation for sticking around until Toronto's competitive window is slammed shut.
While there's some anxiety surrounding whether or not he'll sign soon, there's no denying that Stolarz makes the team better, and if they are truly serious about winning then they'll put out an offer more than enticing to keep him around.
At least, we can hope they're serious.
