Because of that, we have a great picture of the defensive depth in Toronto's organization. Now that we're reaching the middle of the season, trade candidates are slowly emerging within the Leafs' roster.
Back at training camp, Conor Timmins stood out from the pack by tallying six points in three games before being injured. When he returned two months later, the Leafs' blue line was still dealing with injuries, and he had a more significant role than anticipated.
In 13 games this season, he's tallied 6 points, including one goal with the Maple Leafs.
However, he's been scratched on a few occasions from the lineup lately. This raises the possibility of the Leafs including him in a trade package.
Brad Treliving could be exploring his options to send him along with other assets to acquire a player who could have a significant role on the team. Alternatively, he might trade him away for a draft pick, freeing up cap space simultaneously.
With only two months before the trade deadline, we should hear rumors from the Leafs about trades.
Even though Treliving's priority should be focused on Nylander's contract extension, he also needs to support his players by acquiring additional help for the playoffs.
