Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe had harsh words for his team's second period against the Buffalo Sabres, but defended Goaltender Matt Murray following the 4-3 loss, praising Murray's game since his return off injured reserve.

Keefe called their 2nd period potentially their worst period of the season but stood by Murray, placing his faith in the Leafs goalie.

Murray, who had been out since January, has struggled in his return coming off of IR, going 1-2, having allowed 4 goals in all 3 of his games played so far.

Despite Murray's struggles, Keefe defended Murray's performance,

I think he has been great. I know the numbers look terrible. But again, here tonight, I thought he was really good.

Murray is currently 12-7-2 on the season with Toronto with a 2.92 GAA and a .903 SV%.

Although the emergence of Ilya Samsonov has allowed him to solidify his place as the favourite to stick in the starting role for Toronto, the Leafs have shown their faith in Matt Murray to be a high-volume backup to Samsonov, and continue to feel comfortable in the two as the playoffs near for a team seen as in a make or break year.

Hopefully this support in Murray is warranted.
