Kyle Dubas has been relentless. He's added at forward, at defense, and he's somehow added to the pick cupboard as well. A scout has revealed what he could do next.
Dubas to Add a Goalie?
With the Male Leafs having already cemented themselves in two of the three positions, it's logical they would go after a goalie next.
With the Rasmus Sandin trade today, they acquired a first-round pick and Erik Gustafsson. Neither of these assets are especially important to them, so could they be used in subsequent dealings?
Aaron Itovitch, of DobberProspects has made a proposal that could make Leafs fans very happy.
With Gustafsson making only $800,000, he could be a top deadline target for a lot of cap-strapped teams. The LA Kings and Vegas Golden Knights come to mind here, as it is likely the Leafs would prefer not to trade to a conference rival.
Assuming he would fetch a second-rounder (could be more frankly), this asset combined with the aforementioned first could be used to go after a big piece.
With that first, the second-rounder, Matt Murray, and Vancouver native Alex Kerfoot, could Thatcher Demko be in the cards for the Maple Leafs?
Hear me out: - Gustafsson to West Coast contender for 2nd round pick. - Boston 1st, this new 2nd, Alex Kerfoot, Matt Murray to Vancouver for Thatcher Demko and Nils Aman.
Leafs trade Sandin, broker Gustafsson, acquire a goalie.
Cap-wise it would work as long as Kerfoot is in the deal, and it would be a coup for the Leafs.
It might take a few other assets, but this could make the difference in the crazy Eastern Conference.
