The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some savvy moves this summer in order to position themselves as a genuine Stanley Cup contender, but could one more special move help them over the top?

A familiar reunion?

The veteran Phil Kessel has been one of the stories of the NHL, as his iron-man streak lived on a season ago with Vegas, and it came with plenty of production too, as the 35-year old netted 14 goals and 36 points in 82 games played a season ago.

While he didn't feature much in the Golden Knights Stanley Cup run, his presence alone with now three Cups under his belt would have been a major help, so is this a reunion the Maple Leafs should be looking into?

A veteran star

It's an idea that The Hockey News have floated out there, as Elliotte Friedman recently revealed that the veteran is interested in any role possible, even if it sacrifices his iron-man streak, and given the Leafs need for goal scoring depth in their bottom-six, it could be a match made in heaven once more.

In Toronto, Kessel played a career high 446 games for one team before being traded out way back in 2015, but many fans have kept love in their hearts for the veteran goal scorer, and now, it just makes too much sense.

Kessel would come cheap, he comes with three Stanley Cup rings, including one from just a few months ago, and for a Leafs team needing that experience in the playoffs, as well as a depth piece that can bring plenty of goals, the addition of a beloved Kessel would be the perfect way to end their summer.
