The Toronto Maple Leafs made some long-awaited announcements this past week.

Matt Murray was placed on the LTIR.
And they reached a deal with Ilya Samsonov.
Now that it's done, we can focus on what's to come for next season.

A Lot of Depth

If Brad Treliving doesn't make a trade before then, Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll will be the starting goaltenders in October. Matt Murray probably won't play a game unless there are injuries.
While they don't have a star goalie like Connor Hellebuyck, Carter Hart, or Igor Shesterkin, previous Stanley Cup champions proved that you don't need one to win. The Avalanche won with Darcy Kuemper, and the Golden Knights with Adin Hill.
Ilya Samsonov had the best season of his career. He ended the season in the top 10 of the best goalies in the league for the GAA and the SV%. He wasn't perfect in the playoffs, but he'll certainly try to get the most out of this one-year contract in Toronto and come on strong every night.
Joseph Woll was possibly the best goalie in Toronto last year. The rookie was consistently solid. His 9-2-0 record, his .924 SV%, and his 2.38 GAA proved it. We can't wait to see him in action next season.
This duo could very well cause a surprise in the NHL, just like Adin Hill and Darcy Kuemper did.
