Gregor will be competing for a roster spot in Toronto come training camp this fall, and although he was looking for a contract in his UFA period this offseason, he revealed why he chose a PTO with Toronto.
Gregor says that ultimately he had hoped to get a contract somewhere, but when that didn't materialize, his decision to come to Toronto was based on the good conversations he had with Treliving and even Shane Doan.
Toronto will have a pretty stacked group competing for a spot in the bottom 6 of the lineup at training camp this year, and adding Gregor to the list of competitors will only strengthen it. Gregor finished the year last year with 10 goals in 57 games with the Sharks, no small feat for someone coming in and out of the lineup.
Getting Gregor on PTO was a huge win for Toronto, as he has tremendous upside if he plays well in training camp. If he doesn't, it doesn't end up hurting the valuable cap space they have left.
