Major Trade Proposal Would Send One of the Best Goalies in the League to the Maple Leafs
There's never a shortage of Maple Leafs trade rumors, especially during the offseason. This latest proposal would see Toronto acquiring one of the league's top goaltenders.
Toronto Would Get Saros
A new trade proposal would see the Leafs acquiring top goaltender Juuse Saros from the Nashville Predators, in exchange for William Nylander, Matt Murray, and a 1st round draft pick.
While this might seem like a steep price, Leafs fans should seriously consider this.
Worth The Ask
It would certainly hurt to give up a member of the Core Four, as well as a 1st round pick, but take a second to look at it closer.
William Nylander wants a contract north of $10 million, which isn't something Toronto can afford at this point. While he's an amazing player, they'd be getting back an amazing goaltender for half the cost of Nylander.
The Leafs would also be able to dump the full cost of Matt Murray onto Nashville, which is something they've been desperately trying to do. They could then take the saved money and re-sign Ilya Samsonov, creating a terrifying tandem in the net.
While losing Nylander would suck, the new additions of Tyler Bertuzzi and Maz Domi, as well as the emergence of Matthew Knies, would more than make up for Nylander's absence.
