Major Information Drops Regarding Maple Leafs William Nylander's Contract Negotiations
The contract talks for William Nylander are still underway, and this NHL insider just revealed some more information on the status of negotiations.
William Nylander Contract The Talk of Toronto
William Nylander is clearly one of the Leafs' best contributors this season, with 46 points on the year already in just 32 games. He is playing so well that it is creating an even bigger discussion about how the Leafs can manage to sign him to a potential deal.
Nylander has been adamant that he would like to stay in Toronto, however, it all depends on how big of a contract the Leafs can afford to offer him. NHL insider David Pagnotta had the following insight to give on the status of contract talks between Nylander and the Leafs.
There has been an open dialogue between the Leafs and [Nylander's] camp, but at no point has anything been derailed. They've also been keeping things very, very close to the vest. They're going to escalate conversations and talks into the New Year. Once the calendar flips over in a few days to 2024, negotiations, from what I've been told, between the Leafs and Willie's camp are going to start to pick up a little bit.
"Both sides want a long-term deal, you're probably looking at an eight-year extension. It is just a matter of the Leafs being comfortable with a $10 million-plus player, another one, on the roster." - Pagnotta on Nylander and the Leafs
Leafs Considering another $10 Million Plus Player
The Toronto Maple Leafs are considering adding another $10 million dollar player to their roster, to go along with Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, and John Tavares. However, many are arguing that Nylander is worth it, considering his production not only in the regular season but also in the playoffs.
The question remains as to whether or not the Leafs will be able to fit Nylander into their future plans, however, it appears that question will be answered soon.
