Insider Reveals Maple Leafs' on the Hunt for Top-Six Winger
This NHL insider has just revealed that the Toronto Maple Leafs may be on the hunt for a top-6 winger already in preparation for a potential trade later in the season.
Leafs Gauging Market For Potential Top-6 Forward
The Leafs have started the year off pretty spotty, going from scoring 7 goals in a game to being hardly able to produce a goal in the next. While they are getting scoring from their core guys in Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares and Mitch Marner, the production drops off after that.
John Tavares extends his point streak to six games. As does William Nylander who scores as I'm composing this to make it 3-0 TOR.
Now, reports have surfaced that the Leafs could be gauging the market to add a producing winger to their top six later this year.
They're only six games in, but the Toronto Maple Leafs may be getting a head start on potential targets for later in the season. The team has been gauging the future market on a cost-effective top-six winger.
Bertuzzi Still Finding His Groove With Leafs
The remaining question in the top six for the Leafs is how quickly Tyler Bertuzzi can find his groove with the club. While he has been dealing with a small injury, he has been slow to start the year, with just 1 goal and 1 assist in 6 games. Compare that to linemate John Tavares, who has recorded 10 points, and you can see how things start to drop off for the Leafs in the top 6.

Trying to find a top-producing winger could be tough, and it is likely that the Leafs will try out Matthew Knies in the top group before going to that length. The rookie has had some flashes of brilliance which could be prolonged if he played alongside other offensive threats like Nylander and Tavares.
