Some disappointing news today for fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to TSN Insider Chris Johnston, three pending unrestricted free agents are very unlikely to return to the Leafs.
On TSN1050, Johnston said if Toronto GM Brad Treliving were planning to re-sign
Luke Schenn, Ryan O'Reilly and or
Noel Acciari before the deadline of July 1st, the deals would have been done by now and he doesn't see either of them returning.
Toronto gave up some decent assets to acquire each of these players, including a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick to get O'Reilly and Acciari away from the St. Louis Blues. Not uncommon when you're attempting to compete for a Stanley Cup, but still valuable assets to give away.
How Treliving intends to replace these players is anyone's guess, but we'll likely find out when free agency opens on July 1st.
"Chris Johnston of TSN1050 believes it's difficult to see any of Luke Schenn, ROR, or Noel Acciari returning because we're so near to July 1st, and if any were returning, they'd be done by now." - @LeafsLatest
