Insider Reveals Auston Matthews' Contract
Throughout the summer Auston Matthews' contract has been brought up just about every day. Each day it feels like there is a new rumor or potential deal in place.
This continues today with a report on what the Matthews deal will look like from a Toronto media personality.
Matthews Stays In Toronto
According to Howard Berger formerly of THE FAN-590 and a current Toronto Maple Leafs writer the Leafs and Auston Matthews have a framework for the upcoming extension.
According to Berger, the current negotiations would land Matthews at a 4-year deal worth $52 million in total. This would be an AAV of $13 million. This is in line with what other outlets have reported.
Matthews wants a 3 to 5-year deal reportedly and will make around the $13 million mark per year in that time.
Nylander On His Way Out?
When the Matthews extension shifts into place all eyes would then be on William Nylander. His contract is also expiring but the sides are reported to be farther apart than Matthews is with the Leafs.
If his contract can't be worked out in the near future the Leafs may need to start thinking of ways to get value out of Nylander before he walks in free agency next summer.
