Patrick Kane's next destination has been a hot topic among NHL followers since his contract expired last summer.

The insider Elliotte Friedman talked about the prospect of seeing the legendary player in the Leafs' uniform.

Kane with the Leafs: Friedman Opens Up

According to him, Kane won't sign in Toronto.

Here's what he said:

"I don't see Patrick Kane happening, especially with the emergence of Nick Robertson and how well he's been playing. You have Matthew Knies, who's playing unbelievably. I don't think Kane fits necessarily right now for the Leafs. And I think those kind of talks have stalled, and that he'll be going elsewhere."

Do You Need Kane if the Young Stars Rise Up?

As Friedman said, with Robertson and Knies' emergence in Toronto this season, the Maple Leafs don't really need another forward in their top 9.

Especially considering they have almost no cap space and they direly need defensemen.

Sacrificing money to get Kane instead of a defenseman when they have a packed offense and a struggling blue line doesn't seem to be the best option on the table for Treliving.

Of course, Kane is a legend and could help any team. But seriously, is it realistic to believe Treliving will make this a priority? Not at all.
