The opener for the Leafs-Habs was not short of excitement, with 10 total goals scored during regular-time play. While both goalies performed well in the shootout, it was Samsonov who made the 1 extra stop that was required to win the game.
Although the scoresheet wouldn't indicate it, there were some flashes of brilliance that Samsonov can be proud of after last night's game. He made a crucial stop in overtime while the Leafs were on the PK, a save that extended the game and eventually led to his game-winning stop in the shootout.
Goaltending is definitely one of the remaining question marks for the Leafs' roster, and while last night's game was likely an outlier in terms of Samsonov's performance, it didn't do much to provide an answer to those questions.
