The 1995 1st overall pick and former Toronto Maple Leaf Bryan Berard was recently arrested following a bar fight that saw him get into an altercation with another man.
Reports state that Berard was arrested in Newport, Rhode Island, after instigating a bar fight.
Berard was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, with a court date set for August 9th. Berard told reporters what happened was a misunderstanding and believes the charges will be dropped.
Despite being the first overall pick in 1995, Berard only managed to play 619 NHL games after having his career cut short due to an eye injury that has seen him lose his eye entirely.
In two seasons with the Maple Leafs, Berard played 102 total games amassing 49 total points. His time in Toronto was cut short due to the eye injury he sustained. The Leafs gave up legendary goaltender Felix Potvin to acquire Berard back in 1999.
He also played with the New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and the Columbus Blue Jackets. He retired from hockey in 2009 after spending a year in the KHL.
