Elliotte Friedman Drops a Bombshell Regarding Mitch Marner's Future
With Auston Matthews' signature, Brad Treliving didn't only get one of the best players in the League, he also set a reference point for the other stars in the NHL.
If Matthews gets $13.25M, what are they going to get? What's
Mitch Marners' next deal going to look like?
Friedman Drops Bombshell on Marner's Future
Elliotte Friedman, in the recent episode of his podcast, discussed the future of Mitch Marner with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"What is Marner's next number? Because he was the closest one to Matthews. When Matthews signed for 11.634 AAV all the sudden Marner became close to an $11M player, so now Matthews' number is 13.25, what's Marner's number? Is it 13.249999?"
It's hard to imagine Marner earning $13M a year for the moment. Even if he scored more points than Matthews last season, there's still a gap between them.
We could see him sign for something in the range of 11 or 12 million, but 13 seems a lot.
As you can imagine, it caused quite a reaction from the public:
Would you pay $13M for Marner?
