William Nylander was riding high this season just a few weeks ago, however, after signing his massive contract he has hit a new low, sparking concerns for Leaf fans.

William Nylander on Terrible Slump After Signing Massive Deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Nylander effectively played himself into a huge pay raise this year, as he started the season negotiating a new deal in the $9-10 million dollar range, and landed a deal worth $11.5 million annually. This came off the back of an incredible scoring pace that Nylander had at the beginning of the year.

However, since the signing of his contract, Nylander has slumped. While no one really expected Nylander to continue right at the pace he was previously at, he is currently on one of the worst streaks in his playing career, which is sparking some worry for Leaf fans.

William Nylander since signing the extension:

11 games
— 2 goals
— 8 points
— -4
— 5-5-1 record
— 7 games with 0 points
— as many points as Nick Perbix

Tough time for a slump.

Maple Leafs William Nylander Looking to Bounce Back After Slump

The Leafs need Nylander to bounce back from this slump, as they have allocated a ton of capital towards him for the next 8 years. He will be a crucial part of the Leafs' future, and with the massive contract has come a big bump in the responsibility when he doesn't play up to it.

This streak is likely just that, a streak, that will end soon and Nylander will return to the scoring pace that he is capable of producing. However, it is concerning to see him be streaky like this when the Leafs are paying him not to be.
