Earlier today, the Columbus Blue Jackets placed Miles Wood on waivers, giving the Toronto Maple Leafs a chance to make something happen.
The waiver wire has been hectic over the past few weeks as dozens of players have been put there with the intention of going back down to the AHL.
Today, 18 players were placed on waivers, including Maple Leafs players like Justin Holl, Pierre Engvall, Alex Nylander, and Alex Steeves.
The Leafs themselves did not put anyone on waivers. However, there is one player who should prove intriguing, and that would be Columbus Blue Jackets forward Miles Wood.

For those who may be uninitiated, Wood is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed winger who has played a total of 567 games in the National Hockey League.
During that time, he has notched 99 goals and 97 assists for 196 points. Moreover, he has played with teams like the New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, and more recently, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Last season in Columbus, Wood had 14 points, including eight goals in 54 games. It was a solid enough campaign to prove Wood can still play in an NHL bottom-six.
How Miles Wood fits in Toronto
With Dakota Joshua injured, Wood could prove to be a cost-effective option to replace the gritty forward. He has the size and the NHL experience to make an impact.
Furthermore, he is only making $2.5 million, which means he is a cost-effective option. While Bo Groulx is set to take Joshua's place, there is no denying that Wood simply has more experience to be a reliable depth forward.
Wood is certainly redundant when you think about the Leafs acquiring Teddy Blueger and Brandon Duhaime. Even Colton Sissons makes Wood a difficult addition.
However, there is certainly something here for John Chayka to contemplate as Wood remains on waivers until tomorrow at 2 PM EST.
