It was just announced that the Tampa Bay Lightning have terminated the contract of a Stanley Cup champion Josh Archibald.

We have placed forward Josh Archibald on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

«We wish Josh, his wife Bailey, and their entire family the very best in their future endeavors.» - Julien BriseBois

Julien BriseBois, Tampa's GM, said the following:

"Yesterday, I was informed by Josh's agent, and by Josh himself in a subsequent conversation, that he was not planning on playing hockey for the time being and that he would not be reporting to training camp. Consequently, Josh was placed on unconditional waivers earlier today for the purpose of terminating his contract." - Julien BriseBois

Josh Archibald has played 305 career games split between the Penguins, Oilers, and Coyotes. He is not known for his offense but has posted 10+ goals on two occasions.

Last season, he was traded from the Oilers back to the Penguins. Played 70 games and scored 13 points split between the two teams.

While he is not flashy offensively, he has proven to be a valuable depth piece and even helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win back to back Stanley Cups.
