Insider Confirms Sidney Crosby Will Likely Finish His Career On Another Team
Sidney Crosby could make a case for being the best Pittsburgh Penguin of all time but he could wind up retiring somewhere other than Pittsburgh.
Crosby Has A Solid Chance Of Retiring Somewhere Other Than Pittsburgh
In a recent iteration of the Steve Dangle Podcast, it was revealed that there are whispers that Sidney Crosby may not retire with the Pittsburgh Penguins but potentially play elsewhere.
The two teams mentioned are Colorado and Montreal and they both have a strong case for landing Crosby. Colorado has Nathan MacKinnon and the prospect of Crosby reuniting with MacKinnon, a star from his hometown who took the same route Crosby did, could be too much for Crosby to not indulge in. It would also give Crosby some phenomenal teammates like Mikko Rantanen, Cale Makar, Gabriel Landeskog (if he is healthy), and MacKinnon.
Montreal also could wind up landing Crosby. Throughout his 18-year career, Crosby has been tied to Montreal for most of it through trade rumors. Every kid who played in the QMJHL had the dream of one day playing for the Canadiens and Crosby is likely no different.
The Case Crosby Stays
While he may leave two years from now, there are also plenty of other franchise players who stayed with their teams their entire careers. In Boston, there are many recent examples like Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, and Tuukka Rask (even though he was drafted by Toronto).
While many players like Sundin and Broduer exist, there are just as many who stay loyal to their team. The best example is the only player who can compete with Crosby for the greatest Penguin of all time, Mario Lemieux. Lemieux is active amongst the Penguins higher-ups and if he can convince Crosby to stay with the team, Crosby will likely wind up retiring a Penguin.
