The Flyers are one of many teams who are looking to add young talent to their roster this summer. They could take advantage of the underutilized offer sheet route this offseason to acquire a blossoming young star.
Flyers Could Pursue Caufield
Cole Caufield has yet to sign a contract extension with the Canadiens, making fans wonder if he truly wants to remain in Montreal in the long term. If he were to return to the United States via an offer sheet, the Flyers would be the perfect team to execute the move.
Jesse Bell, a reporter for the Flyers, has heard rumors that the Flyers may be interested in pursuing Caufield this offseason with a substantial offer sheet. While they'd have to give up multiple first-round picks to get him, they'd be getting back a ready-to-go, almost guaranteed 50-goal scorer.
This move could help jumpstart Philly's retooling process and move their competition window up a bit.
Familiar Territory
Philadelphia is no stranger to the offer sheet method, which they famously used to sign Shea Weber to his monstrous 14-year deal. The Predators ended up matching the offer, but it shows that they're a franchise willing to do the dirty work to improve their team.
Should the Flyers choose to make this move, it would be interesting to see if Montreal takes the picks and runs, or if they keep their promising young talent.
