The No. 1 overall pick always comes with plenty of hype, and after landing Alexis Lafreniere with that pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, plenty was expected of the young kid in New York.
A slow start
Unfortunately due to constant change in his playing time and linemates, Lafreniere has struggled to become the star many expected early in his career, but the future is still bright at just 21-years of age.
Through his first 216 NHL games, the Quebec native has scored just 47 goals and 91 points, but has shown plenty of skill and creativity, and if he can find that consistency, he'll be key to the Rangers playoff push going forward.
Staying in the Big Apple?
While there are many teams out there with fans hoping for an offer sheet for Alexis, it appears that a deal with the Rangers is imminent, as he revealed in a recent interview.
Yes, it's coming. My agent and the Rangers are in discussions and I hope it will be settled in the next few weeks. I love playing there, and it would be super cool to continue.
That's what the National League is all about. You have to be patient sometimes, it takes a little longer. I'm really looking forward to re-signing.
With youth on his side and a very talented team around him, it appears to be just a matter of time until he breaks out, and if he can do that, this will be a very dangerous Rangers team.
