Kirby Dach just gave everyone a scare when he took a stick directly to the face in the very first intra-squad game of training camp. The sight of him down on the ice had fans and coaches holding their breath with the heightened concern about head injuries in sports. It was kind of tense for a few moments with the concussion possibility hanging in the air. It would be a serious setback to Dach, particularly as he looks to build off of a really promising start with the Canadiens.
Fortunately, early reports seem to indicate that he's OK and he appears to have avoided serious injury. Of course, we'll monitor the situation closely and will keep you updated should anything change.
The 23-year-old Kirby Dach is a hulking presence on the ice. At 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds, he could bring size, skill, and speed to the forward position for the Habs this year if he stays healthy. Originally selected third overall by the Blackhawks in 2019, the kid always had a load of potential.
Despite being hurt for a chunk of the year, Kirby Dach scored 38 points in 58 games for the Canadiens last year, showing at least some of that high-end skill that made him a top pick. As he gets back to full health, hopes are that he will be a difference-maker for the Habs this year, building off some positive momentum.
