Patrick Roy's NHL career was filled with stardom and the bright lights of Montreal. However, after the infamous "trade me" game, Roy spent the rest of his time with the Colorado Avalanche.
Post-retirement, he began coaching and coached the Avalanche somewhat well. Since being let go by the Avs, he has struggled to find an NHL home and instead has decided to coach in the QMJHL for the Quebec Remparts.
The Remparts are currently in the Memorial Cup after becoming QMJHL champions and are doing pretty well for themselves.
With the success Roy's teams have seen in the Q, there have been many wondering if he could be a good NHL coach and a team looking for a coach could be interested.
This seems like a perfect partnership for the two parties. Roy gets to make his NHL return in New York and the Rangers get to have a fantastic developmental coach who can unlock the full potential of high-end picks like Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko, and Filip Chytil.
If Roy can unlock their potential, watch out. The already-loaded Rangers will become cup favorites in an instant.
