BREAKING: Doctor Makes a Major Statement Regarding Carey Price's Future In The NHL
The Montreal Canadiens held a surprise press conference with the team doctors today. What they had to say was quite interesting.
Canadiens Doctor Address Price Injury, Fights In Hockey
Dr. David Mulder took the opportunity to discuss a couple of important topics relevant to hockey fans, especially fans of the Montreal Canadiens. Perhaps most significantly, he addressed the knee injury that ended Carey Price's career prematurely.
"He had two injuries. He had an injury to the meniscus, which is the cartilage in the joint, and we sent him to New York Dr. Marks operated on him, tidied up the meniscus, and during the operation he discovered that the important part of the femur, the bone in your leg had lost all its cartilage. About the size of a 50 cent piece, and so that was a complete surprise to us. That's what really has ended his career."
Canadiens Doctor Proposes Banning Fights In NHL
Mulder also discussed fighting in hockey, taking a clear stance against the tradition, stating that it only serves to cause brain damage.
"Well I think I'm looking at it from the point of view of 1963 versus 2023, 60 years later. The league has made tremendous progress in terms of protective equipment. Helmets are much better, all the padding is much more protective. The whole league is aware of a concussion and how serious it can be and so I think we've made progress in that regard... We're not there yet. I would like to see fighting removed from the game or changed drastically. Do you know what the purpose of a fight is? Its to produce a concussion. Its to produce a brain injury."
Such a statement is not to be taken lightly. Many hockey fans are not going to be happy to hear it. However, Dr. Mulder is not just a doctor in this case. One can tell from his previous answers to questions that he is just a big a fan of the Canadiens as anyone and he still thinks fighting should be banned.
