A new update from Frank Seravalli believes that Florida's Matthew Tkachuk could potentially miss upwards of five months with his injury issues and potential surgery.
There has been
a lot of speculation regarding the timeframe that Matthew Tkachuk is looking at after recovery from surgery, should he decide to go down that route, though it seems pretty lengthy.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli however, we are looking at a potential five months on the shelf for Tkachuk, meaning that not only would he miss the Olympics, but would be going into March if he needs the full length of time to get better.
I'd say we're probably not gonna see Matthew Tkachuk for 3 to 5 months.
While there's been no confirmation that Tkachuk will go under the knife, it's a very likely possibility and it could be a huge negative for Florida's three-peat chances, however with their firepower they should be fine.
Especially if they are throwing him on the LTIR, they would be able to grab pretty much whoever they want with their extra cap space; another caveat that seems to aid the Panthers at the most opportune times.
Tkachuk, 27, had 57 points in 52 games for the Panthers last season, and added another 23 more in the playoffs as he helped lead Florida to their second straight Stanley Cup.
It's a huge boost for other teams in the Atlantic who can now pick apart Florida a little bit easier without one of their most impactful players. Teams like Toronto, Tampa Bay and even Ottawa are going to be all gas, no brakes; so the Panthers need to be on the lookout.
While Tkachuk certainly needs to rehabilitate as much as he can to not risk re-aggravating things so it would be in his best interest to stay on the shelf as long as he can, but that also gives Florida more chances to add to their roster.
It's an unfortunate start to the season for both the Panthers and Tkachuk, but if he can come back healthy then it'll make them that much more dangerous come playoff time.
