With Jack Roslovic still unsigned and waiting for the right deal, the Toronto Maple Leafs might still be the frontrunners, but their pesky cap situation is an issue.

Over the last several weeks there have been a slew of rumors regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jack Roslovic, the NHL's top free agent left on the market who has been remarkably patient, but could be waiting for just the right deal.
The Maple Leafs would love to have him aboard not only because he would add a scoring punch to the lineup, but his familiarity with Auston Matthews may lead to some pretty fluid chemistry.

Roslovic Signing Close; Toronto Remains Frontrunner

However, with him remaining unsigned and the Maple Leafs with less than $2-million in cap left. will he entertain an offer? Frank Seravalli believes so, though while he named Toronto as a likely candidate; it's all about the money:
They are getting closer; some people seem to wonder is Toronto the fit? I could see that happening, but we know Toronto's cap situation is still going to be tight.
With Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf still on the roster and eating up cap space, there needs to be a move made soon if Toronto wants any hope of signing Roslovic, but the fact nothing has materialized in the slightest; that hope is dwindling.

Why Toronto Has To Move Enough Room for Jack Roslovic

We heard rumors as well that Roslovic wants to sign for $3-million per season on his next deal, while the Maple Leafs could afford it (if they hit the salary cap overage) they still have to be compliant come October, so they would rather move pout a body first.
Last season was a very solid one for Roslovic, who exploded for 22 goals and 39 points in 81 games and would fit perfectly anywhere in the top-nine. He's hit 20 goals twice in his career and can offer at least serviceable defense though would be better suited to play with some protection.
Brad Treliving needs to get something going quick, not only to help his team out but to potentially silence the prospective backlash he'll get for not adding enough when he could have, and might be regretting some previous acquisitions.
Roslovic is also garnering attention from the KHL and while it's likely he finds a job in the NHL, there's always the possibility.
But he has to play the hand he is dealt with, and until he can turn a pair (Jarnkrok and Kampf) into a Roslovic-sized jackpot, it's going to be more hearsay as the days and weeks pass.
