Veteran Gets Released From PTO By Edmonton Oilers, Announces Retirement
The Edmonton Oilers announced yesterday that they released Brandon Sutter from his Profesionnal Tryout. Sutter revealed his retirement from pro hockey at the same time.
Sutter's comeback was always going to be a hard. He signed a PTO this summer, but the last time he played a game was in the 2020-21 season.
An NHL insider shared that it wasn't the Oilers decision to let him go.
Sutter's Health Forces Him to Retire
Mark Spector revealed that Sutter took the decision to retire after he had some health concerns because of long-covid.
"Brandon Sutter called a meeting Sunday in Seattle with Oilers GM Ken Holland, head coach Jay Woodcroft, and trainer TD Forss, to tell them he could not go on with his PTO.
Holland: "He had some health concerns and he just felt that he was going to end his career."
Long Covid..."
Sutter took part in the Oilers training camp and it looked like he could earn his spot on the lineup for the opening night.
It's sad to see a player forced to retire like that, but we still send him our best wishes for this new chapter.
