Sheldon Keefe gets put on the spot following media question
The Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves in a familiar position today, down three games to one in their series against the Boston Bruins. Last night, Sheldon Keefe received a lot of criticism for comments he made in his press conference after the game four loss.
The head coach was asked a simple question, "How do you explain coming out with so little energy?" Given the fact that the Leafs were at home, and already down two games to one in the series, this is a very reasonable question to ask. Keefe's answer was not satisfactory to most fans of the team.
«How do you explain coming out with so little energy?»
«Hard to say. Hard to pinpoint.»
It's been FIVE years and this guy still can't get the team to start on time with any level of consistency. FIVE years and this guy has no idea what's going on or how to solve it.
Leafs reporter Sid Seixeiro immediately called for Keefe to lose his job after he head the comments. His reaction was quite harsh, implying that the head coach is one of, if not the biggest problem, the Leafs have as an organization right now.
I can name 10 people, at least, both on and off the ice that should not be with the Toronto Maple Leafs next season.
Sheldon Keefe is near the top of the list. These postgame comments last night, on their own, are a fireable offense
Other fans of the sport compared Keefe's comments to those Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper made after his team went down three games to nothing to the Florida Panthers. Cooper received a lot of praise for his comments as he was a good leader in a tough moment. Keefe on the other hand, looks questionable at best.
Jon Cooper following his 3rd loss of the playoffs:
"if you're not going to believe, you don't have to come" (To the rink) talking about his players
Sheldon Keefe following his 3rd loss of these playoffs "Can't question our effort"
Game five between the Bruins and Leafs will be on Tuesday. It very well may be the last game Sheldon Keefe coaches for the Leafs.
