Compelling Evidence Confirms that the Referees Were Biased Against the Leafs
When the Panthers beat the Maple Leafs, many fans criticized the work done by the referees, as they made questionable decisions and omitted some flagrant calls.
If you recall, Sam Bennett from the Panthers made multiple dangerous plays and wasn't even penalized for them.
In fact, he only received one penalty that caused a powerplay in the entire series against Toronto.
Here's the Evidence
An analyst on Twitter noted a curious observation regarding Bennett's behavior.
In only two games, he received three penalties, resulting in powerplays. That is considerably more than in the second round.
"Sam Bennett only took one penalty causing a powerplay in round 2. He's already taken three in this series. What a shocking change in discipline from him."
The catch is this: he didn't change his style at all. The referees are simply calling the penalties now.
This shows several things.
First, the refs could have been biased against Toronto.
Second, the refs seem to be calling more penalties now, providing further proof that they are inconsistent.
Finally, are they now tipping the balance in Carolina's favor because it's a bigger hockey market than Florida?
