Pavel Datsyuk turns down a huge role with the Detroit Red Wings
Pavel Datsyuk is one of the greatest players to ever play for the Detroit Red Wings, but that doesn't mean he wants a new role with the organization.
The 2024 Hockey Hall of Fame Class, set to be inducted in November is a star studded one, with no one in the group bigger than former Detroit Red Wings icon Pavel Datsyuk. His influence on the game is still being felt today, with many fans around the world continuing to watch highlight reels of his work, and it's safe to say he knows just how lucky he is.
«I'm still recognizing I'm there and it's hard to believe,» he said. «Of course, I feel like I'm a lucky boy.»
While he's excited to return to the United States and accept his induction, Datsyuk has revealed he has no interest in joining the Detroit Red Wings in any hockey capacity, as he enjoys his time with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the KHL as a coach.
«I miss Detroit but now I have a job, I'm a hockey player development back at home,» Datsyuk explained. He prioritizes spending time with his family, stating, «I want to stay with my family, spend more time at home.»
With former teammate Steve Yzerman at the helm, this could certainly change sometime in the future, but for now, don't expect to see the superstar return to Detroit in any full-time capacity.
