Joe Pavelski announces his retirement during end-of-season press conference
The Dallas Stars veteran Joe Pavelski announced his retirement from the NHL during his end-of-season press conference earlier today.
After a tough elimination against the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals, the Dallas Stars players were back at the arena for one last time before going on vacation for the summer.
Players met with the media for their end-of-season interviews, and the veteran Joe Pavelski made a big announcement. What everyone feared would happen finally happened: he shared his retirement plans.
"Dallas Stars forward Joe Pavelski says «this is it for me.» Says it's not official official, but said it was known for a long time that this was his last go. «Plan is not to play next season.»"
Pavelski was drafted 205th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2003. Since then, he scored 1068 in 1332 regular season games for the Sharks and the Stars. In the playoffs, he tallied 143 points in 201 games, but never won a Stanley Cup.
After losing the sixth game against the Edmonton Oilers, many of Pavelski's teammates were asked to comment on Pavelski's retirement rumors, and a few got emotional talking about it. It proves how a great player, teammate and person he is and how big of an impact he had on the young players in Dallas.
