The Colorado Avalanche came up short in a thriller in their series opener against Winnipeg, and it appears their biggest flaw may come back to haunt them.

Despite allowing just 23 shots on goal in game one against Winnipeg, the Colorado Avalanche allowed seven goals in their 7-6 loss, as the entire team came to the realization that they can't always out-shoot their flaws. Despite being favoured by many in the series, the Avalanche allowed those seven goals despite a 1.96 goals expected mark in game one, a bad sign for things to come.
So the Jets scored seven tonight against Colorado despite a total of... (checks notes) 1.96 expected goals for ?
😱

This was clear to many that didn't see Alexandar Georgiev as an All-Star in 2023-24, but now, the team's mistakes are coming back to haunt them. It was at the trade deadline that they looked into the availability of proven playoff performer Jake Allen, and with other names like Jacob Markstrom potentially available, making no moves in net was a huge mistake.
There is no Jake Allen deal to Colorado. The two clubs haven't spoken in days but there has been previous discussions. Nothing close at this stage.

They did add to their offense with the addition of Casey Mittelstadt, while also bringing in Sean Walker, but even if they score six goals a game, allowing seven through poor goaltending will hold them back from achieving their goals yet again in 2023-24.
