The NHL finally saw the long-awaited debut of their brightest young star on Tuesday, and before the game, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft had already decided to break a major NHL rule.
When it came time for the tradition of the rookie lap, Bedard was skating alongside fellow debutant
Kevin Korchinski, but in doing so, they skated without a helmet, a big no-no for the NHL these days.
Unsurprisingly, this will come with a big fine for both players, but beyond that, it appeared everything in his debut went well, with the future being very bright in Chicago.
Given the NHL's ban on helmet-less rookie laps, it was a surprise to see the two young stars do it, but now, Korchinski has revealed exactly why they felt the need to.
Kevin Korchinski said the other players told him and
Connor Bedard to go helmetless during warmups. "They kept saying, 'You only get one rookie lap,' " Korchinski said.
With two bright young stars expected to lead the way, the future is very bright in Chicago, and now after they got this one major rule break out of the way, things will hopefully be smooth sailing for them from here on out.
