Once the New York Rangers acquired Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues, they filled their team need of a scoring winger.
However, with Kane holding a full no-move clause, the Rangers hold significant leverage to acquire him for pennies on the dollar.
It has been reported that the relationship between Kane and the Blackhawks organization has soured, and Kane no longer wants to find the optimal solution for both sides. He wants to be a Ranger, or he doesn't want to be traded at all.
Per Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Rangers are still interested in Kane, especially if they can get him under market value.
It appears talks were much more advanced than it seems, and that the Rangers are still the frontrunners for Kane.
The Rangers will be in contention for the scariest top-six in the league if they can pull this off and in an eastern conference like this, they might need it.
