Recent reports show that the Toronto Maple Leafs missed out hard on Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman.
Leafs Pass On Swayman
A recent report from MassLive.com has shaken the hockey community by revealing that Jeremy Swayman was expecting to be selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in the 2017 draft.
"The goaltender said that the Toronto Maple Leafs had their eye on him while he was playing in the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League. Swayman's agent thought that he was likely going to be a Maple Leaf by the end of the draft."
Who The Leafs Selected Instead
With the 110th pick in the 2017 draft, the Maple Leafs selected goaltender Ian Scott. Scott has some solid accolades but has been on a downward trajectory since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2020, Scott has played only 7 professional games, 1 AHL game, and 6 ECHL games. His numbers in those games have been rough. He was forced to retire due to injuries back in 2022.
If the Leafs had elected to select Swayman instead, who went 111th, they could have had a goaltender who was top 10 in both sv% and GAA last season. There is no doubt that Swayman would have been the right choice and we can only wonder what he would look like in a Leafs jersey.
